Connecticut is America’s quietest state

According to Alpine Hearing Protection, noise levels across Connecticut peak at just 54.85 dB , making it the only state below the EPA’s recommended 55 dB limit for outdoor noise. What’s the source of Connecticut’s quiet? It’s due to the state’s low-density zoning, green space, and intentional planning. Meanwhile, which might come as a surprise to New Yorkers, Texas leads the nation in noise at 80.65 dB, which is loud enough to cause hearing loss. The contrast shows that quiet is a choice communities make.

Wayne, New Jersey expands engine-braking ban

Recently,Wayne, New Jersey unanimously adopted Ordinance No. 48, expanding its Jake brake restrictions from seven roads to twelve. The ban applies to engine-compression brakes used by heavy trucks, which produce rapid, disruptive thumping. It’s incremental progress in the fight against harmful noise caused by vehicle modifications, but progress nonetheless. What's most exciting is that this change was driven by residents who spoke up and officials who listened.
