Quiet Healthcare

Better for patients and staff

Optimizing acoustic environments at healthcare facilities

Quiet Healthcare focuses on the acoustic environments of hospitals and other facilities. Research has shown that a quieter environment is better for patient sleep quality, recovery, and health outcomes, and minimizes medical errors by staff.

Healthcare facilities can be noisy places.

Noise from equipment, medical devices, and other sources can disrupt patient sleep and impede the ability to recover. Staff can also be distracted and stressed by constant noise, contributing to mistakes.

“Noise pollution in the hospital is detrimental to the physical and mental well-being of staff and patients.”

Evidence-based facility guidelines

Acoustic guidelines are based on the best available scientific evidence and are updated every four years. The 2022 edition of the FGI Guidelines is now available.

Guidelines for a quieter healthcare environment

Quiet Healthcare collaborates with the Facilities Guidelines Institute to develop national and international codes and standards on building acoustics for the $2.8 trillion healthcare industry.
